Sierra Nevada BFD (Beer For Drinking)

Fill date: 4/27/18

Judged to 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for: 18A Blonde Ale

AROMA: Moderate lemony hop character. Clean and fresh. Slight peppery or spicy character. Malt base is evident; though mostly standard pale without specialty character other than a minor honey note.  Clean fermentation. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Golden/amber hue (4-7 SRM). Body is mostly clear with just a minor haze. Large white soapy foam mostly dissipates. 2/3

FLAVOR: Noticeably hoppy for the style with a significant citrusy flavor (especially lemons). Fruity taste is quite authentic with both peel and fruit flavors without being sweet. Malt base is standard pale with a faint grainy sweetness on the finish and a hint of honey in the aftertaste. Bitterness is a tad high for the style, though not the point of becoming a pale ale or a SIPA. Hops make the palette more interesting than the average blonde ale. 17/20

MOUTHFEEL: Light body; moderately-high carbonation. Smooth, though a bit watery. Extremely drinkable and refreshing while in the mouth. Easily sessionable at 4.8% ABV. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Blondes tend to be boring, but this beer is anything but. Quite close to being World Class for the style. 9/10
